From Nanny Mag: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are approximately 1.3 million childcare workers in the United States, 10% of whom are nannies (130,000). However, a recent study by Catherine Haskins at Amherst University reveals that only 3–20% of nannies report their income. This means that there are estimated to be between 1 million and 4 million nannies in the United States.
This number is only going to increase. With more and more parents entering the workforce and abandoning the old-fashioned idea of the stay-at-home parent, the demand for nannies will naturally rise, so much so that the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates an additional growth of 20% in the field by the year 2020
